Photosynthesis Recall that in the carbon cycle, carbon in the atmosphere cycles through producers such as plants, into other organisms, and then back into the atmosphere. This and other matter cycles involve photosynthesis, as shown in Figure 2. Photosynthesis is a series of chemical reactions that convert light energy, water, and carbon dioxide into the food-energy or chemical energy molecule glucose and give off oxygen.

Photosynthesis takes place in the cell.
The organelle is called chloroplast.
It is located on the leaves.
See below...

Plants have cells tissue organs and organ systems....
Tissue combine to make organs
Both plants and animals have organs and organ systems.
The organs of a plant are leaves, xylem and phloem. The root system is an organ system that deliver nutrients. Xylem delivers water to the plant, while phloem delivers nutrients from the soil to the cells.

Charles Darwin Natural Selection

Plants and animals have various adaptations that help them survive.

How do the shape of these beaks help the birds eat their food?

Demonstrate and explain the cycling of matter within living systems such as in the decay of biomass in a compost bin.

Diagram the flow of energy through living systems, including food chains, food webs, and energy pyramids.

What are trophic levels? Levels of organisms using energy.

How much energy is saved as you move up a trophic level? 10%

Which organisms are secondary consumers?

Analyze the effects of weathering, erosion, and deposition on the environment in ecoregions of Texas.

Model the effects of human activity on groundwater and surface water in a watershed.

Analyze the characteristics of objects in our solar system that allow life to exist such as the proximity of the Sun, presence of water, and composition of the atmosphere.

Identify the accommodations, considering the characteristics of our solar system, that enabled manned space exploration.

To be in space we need A system for breathing, air pressure, temperature control, walking, identification, food storage…can you think of any more…

Why do astronauts need to exercise?

Describe how different environments, including microhabitats in schoolyards and biomes, support different varieties of organisms.

Describe how biodiversity contributes to the sustainability of an ecosystem.

Observe, record, and describe the role of ecological succession such as in a microhabitat of a garden with weeds.

Examine organisms or their structures such as insects or leaves and use dichotomous keys for identification.
